Progress of 4 paintings

Progress shots from 4 paintings (426, 427, 431 and 432) stitched together over “asphalt dub” by The After Dark Set (http://afterdarkset.bandcamp.com/). This shows the initial color choices being made for each painting and then the final finished product. These paintings were made between June 2012 and March 2013.

I am pleased to announce I am taking part in a 3 person show in Durham, opening next week at The Carrack Modern Art in Durham.

Ternary: 3 Durham Abstract Painters is a show by three young artists unified in their bold use of color and commitment to working in Durham. Inspired by the Washington Color School, Joe McDonough, Ross Ford and Ryan McKellar wish to reignite a serious conversation about color and abstraction in Durham. The Carrack is located at 111 West Parrish St, Durham, NC 27701

Join us during the March 15th Third Friday in Durham to meet the artists, see the show and enjoy refreshments.

Opening Reception Friday, March 15 6:00 – 9:00 pm

Artist Talk: March 21, 6:00 pm

The exhibit will be on view from March 12-23 during normal hours Tu-Fr: 12 – 6 pm, Sat: 2 – 5 pm and by appointment

We have several musical performances planned to take place at the gallery during the exhibit:

Sketchbook 2013

It’s been awhile since I posted drawings from my sketchbook. Here are some from February 1st, 2013. These drawings are in preparation for Number 433. Number 432 is already in progress and mostly finished, those of you who follow my Instagram have seen some progress shots. If I can finish it in time 433 will be in my upcoming show at The Carrack Modern Art with Ryan McKellar and Joe McDonough March 11-23, 2013. We have a few special performances planned and I may even be creating an installation… but more on that later. For now, sketches:

New Painting – Number 431

I have finally completed this painting, Number 431. I started this back in November after completing the three blue paintings (427-430). After getting derailed by Thanksgiving, then Art Basel, then a trip up to New Hampshire for Christmas it is finally done. This is another wall-sized painting – 60″ x 90″ – that’s 5 ft by 7.5 ft. I have 3 more this size planned.

I was going through some old files and found these photos of my first studio on the second floor at the Bakehouse Arts Complex. These photos were taken June 28th, 2009. After a few months (two I think) I moved down to the first floor.
