Iterative Expression 2 years later

It is hard to believe that it has been 2 years since these pictures were taken.  We were back in Miami last week to see some good friends and it brought back memories of feverishly hanging 120 paintings in a day, staying out late with good friends, then flying to Massachusetts for a wedding and a reunion, then packing our whole life into a truck and driving non-stop to NC.  Just thinking about it makes me feel tired.  Anyways, I thought I would post some of these pictures, some of which were on facebook but never made it to my site. …

Sketchbook June 2012

I am planning the second large canvas.  Here are some recent sketches I am considering:…

06/02/12 New Painting

This took much longer to complete than I anticipated.

I started on May 5th, 2012 and finished a month later, June 2nd.  It is the largest painting I have ever done at 7 1/2 feet tall by 5 feet wide.  I have another one planned.  I will start on that after we get back from Miami, next week.  When I originally painted out all the colors I had only 2 of each color, similar to the color set on 423 but decided the next day that some of the colors needed 3 variations. …

Orange!

There are two sets of prints here.  This first set was printed on 4/15/12.  The full array is up on the Prints page.  This first group uses 3 shades of turquoise, in different color iterations:

To get all of the variations I printed each screen twice in each color, then switched colors and repeated on the dry prints for each of the remaining screens.  I started printing the lightest shade, adding more turquoise for each layer.  Phthalo turquoise is one of my favorite colors. …

My work was featured on two great sites this week:

I am pleased to say that I am the featured artist this month over at ArtandArtDeadlines.com.  Click over to read an interview covering art and one of my favorite subjects: food.  Please leave a comment on the blog.  At the end of the year the artist with the most comments is named artist of the year.…

New Paintings: Process

Here are some start-to-finish progress shots of Number 424 and Number 425.  I started these March 31st, the day after the auction preview at NCMA.  I am still playing with the same colors as I used in 423 but I have added a lighter orange, moved the orange inside and I am using 2 blacks (one turquoise, one blue) each with gray variant.  The exteriors are white shades of the two minor colors, chrome oxide green and van dyke brown. …

Chillin with the ‘stache

This was taken at the preview night for the Art of the Auction benefit for the museum.  More info on the event is this post.…

Finally updated the Print Store

So I finally updated the Available Prints page with all of the recent work.  These prints are now available for sale via my paypal checkout.  The buy now button is located at the bottom of the page for each print. I set the price at $60 + $5 shipping for each of them.  Many of these prints are one of a kind variations.  A few are in small run multiples of a color combination but each is unique, for reasons explained here. …

3/26/12 New Painting

Hard to believe it’s the end of March and this is the first painting of 2012, Number 423.  I have been focused on the prints since January so I haven’t spent much time actually painting.  It’s been a lot of fun but I needed to paint.  I am still planning a giant painting on this roll of canvas I have. The plan has been to go very heavily multilinear on that since I will have space to put a lot of lines.…
